Dear Parent & Guardians,
Spring is in full bloom (at least for now). With the warmer weather here to stay, we hope to see many of you around town and at events. Details on both 8th grade celebrations and high school graduation will be coming soon. We are in the home stretch of another school year.
A reminder to parents that over the next 2 weeks, students in grades 3 through high school will be taking the new VTCAP State Assessments during some of their morning classes. Please help your student get a good night's sleep, stay hydrated and eat a healthy breakfast. We know our students will do their best.
Warm regards,
Colleen, Kate, & Sergio

Elementary News
A warm welcome back from break to the home stretch of the school year! We are excited and looking forward to a rigorous and action packed 4th quarter! In the next couple weeks we will share details about all of these events including Mountain Day, Field Day, and much much more! Stay tuned to this newsletter...
Our Elementary Team is starting administration for the VTCAP (the replacement for the SBAC you are likely familiar with). This assessment is new to all VT schools so it will certainly be a learning curve all around. If you are able to send any snacks to your classroom team they would be most welcome!
Lastly, a quick reminder regarding drop off and morning recess. The school day begins at 8. We have supervision on the playground and for indoor breakfast in the Elementary cafeteria/gym starting at 7:40am. Please remind your student(s) that if they are here at school between 7:40-8:00am they will need to be in one of these two supervised spaces. Many thanks in advance for the support!

High School News
Scheduling -.. Please check in with your students. We have met with all but incoming freshmen which will be done this week. We are offering more electives based on student wants and needs. Please also remember our flexible pathway options. “Flexible Pathways” is a concept that allows students to take ownership of their learning by making choices about what can satisfy their graduation requirements, while preparing for post-secondary success. The state of Vermont defines Flexible Pathways as, “any combination of high-quality expanded learning opportunities.” These pathways are generally learning experiences that happen outside the traditional classroom that contain elements of the following:
-
Increased student voice, choice and ownership of their learning and pathway to graduation.
-
Alternative ways to meet graduation requirements: online, dual enrollment, early college, etc.
-
Additional classes and or learning opportunities driven by student interests that connect to and support a student’s post secondary goals.
-
Opportunities to receive credit for activities outside school such as 4H, PE credit through dance, adult education, hobbies/outside workshops, travel, etc. These allow students to receive credit for legitimate learning that occurs outside of school and to open more space in their schedule for increased student ownership in their graduation path.
-
Opportunities for alternatives that meet student needs. These combine a variety of pathways options designed for students who need a true alternative to traditional learning experiences.
-
Flexible Pathways itself is not a standalone class, credit recovery, or something offered to students as a way to earn credits needed.
The “Flexible Pathways to Graduation” concept is complex and interconnected to many other local and state initiatives such as personalized learning, personal relationships, student agency and Proficiency-Based Progressions. All this information is detailed and goes into more depth in the Flexible Pathways Handbook.
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) Reminder - It is the policy of the Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union (WSESU) to use Information and Communication Technology to support and enrich the curriculum. The school board believes that the benefit to students from access to Information and Communication Technology and opportunities for collaboration far exceed the disadvantages.
The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing and implementing administrative procedures concerning the following:
Unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal information regarding minors
Students who break this policy and record and post, share, etc videos/pictures of other students without written permission will lose the privilege to carry a cell phone in the school. Depending on the severity of the offense, students may NOT have a cell phone in the school for a minimum of 2 weeks. Students may keep their phone at home, in their car, or turn in to be locked in an office. There is also legislature regarding disturbing the peace by use of telephone or other electronic communications.
We know we have had multiple incidents of students recording other students at struggling moments as well as an uptick in unkind instagram pages and posts and are responding accordingly.
PSAT- Windsor will host the PSAT 10 ON APRIL 25th, 2023 ( make up date April 26th)
This test is open to sophomores and helps prepare them for the PSAT's in the fall.
Testing is optional, sophomores who are interested should fill out the opt in form. Contact Jessica Vivian with questions.
