Dear Parent & Guardians,
We look forward to seeing our students and families at all of our upcoming spring school and athletic events. This coming week is our Spring Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you have not scheduled one yet, please reach out to your child's teacher if you would like to meet. Also, if you have a HS student and/or need to schedule multiple conferences, Suzanne Ambrose can assist, sambrose@wsesu.net.
Every other year, since 1993, the Health Department and the Agency of Education sponsors the Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) to help acheive positive outcomes for all youth in Vermont.
The survey was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1990 to monitor priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disease, injury and social problems among youth. These behaviors, often established during childhood and early adolescence, include:
- Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
- Physical activity
- Nutrition
- Weight status
- Tobacco use
- Alcohol and other drug use
- Sexual behaviors
The survey is part of a larger effort to help communities increase the resiliency of young people by reducing high risk behaviors and promoting healthy behaviors. Vermont collects student responses every two years from nearly every high school and middle school in the state. More info can be found here. Students in grades 6-12 will be surveyed during the week of April 3rd. Please complete this google form if you would like your student to opt-out of the YRBS.
Enjoy the weekend!

Elementary News
A big shout to our PK team! They have been working hard each day to learn routines, new skills, and how to work together. They have recently been learning about dinosaurs through rich read alouds and hands on activities! We hope you enjoy the pictures of their learning fun!
We are back on this coming Friday for our LIM assembly series! We hope you can join us just after 8 on Friday in the Auditorium. Also coming up soon... Parent/Caregiver Conferences! Please look for sign up information from your student's teacher for 3/30 and 3/31. We look forward to connecting with you!
Lastly, a quick reminder regarding drop off and morning recess. The school day begins at 8. We have supervision on the playground and for indoor breakfast in the Elementary cafeteria/gym starting at 7:40am. Please remind your student(s) that if they are here at school between 7:40-8:00am they will need to be in one of these two supervised spaces. Many thanks in advance for the support!

Middle School News
Parent Support - We are thankful to all of our parents & guardians for the relationships we have formed with you to support our students. We would kindly appreciate your help again when it comes to the expectations of electronic devices and their use here at school. As you know, social media access, use and misuse of devices is very hard to control. We sometimes expect our middle school students to navigate this easily when it can be very hard for a typical adolescent to do so. Your reinforcement at home is extremely helpful for students to know that we are all working together to make their learning environment the best we can.
Skate Club - Some of our up and coming skaters were able to participate in an extended learning opportunity (ELO) this past week. Students were able to practice their drop-ins, grabs and kickflips in the bowl at a great student-friendly indoor skate park facility. Thank you to our adult chaperones.
April 7th Middle School Dance - hosted by Hartland School for all WSESU MS Students from 6-8pm. If you are interested in chaperoning, please email Mr Butts at Hartland School, micheal.butts@wsesu.net

Mr. Broderick will also be speaking with the community during the evening of April 17th at 6pm in the Windsor School Lois White Theater. If you have any questions please reach out to administration.

High School News
Independent Learning Center: We are excited to introduce a shortened day full credit program that allows our learners to meet graduation requirements, while offering the flexibility on how to do that. The Independent Learning Center will open in the 2023/2024 school year and be open to students in grades 10-12. It will be spearheaded by Jen Townsend. Students will earn the 4 academic requirements through a combination of direct teacher instruction, online classes (with adult present), outdoor learning, field trips and professional learning opportunities. Students will eat lunch and they may be dismissed OR work with the school on elective opportunities including in person classes, job shadowing and flexible pathways. There is an application that can be found here and this is an OPT IN program. We are really excited and know this will lead to more personalized learning for our students.
